Murder: A One-Button Assassin Loop

What Is Murder?

Murder is a short stealth game built around a single button. You start as an assassin in the shadows behind a king, and your only tool is a charged stab: hold to build power, release to strike. The catch is timing — the king periodically turns his head, and if he catches you mid-swing, you are thrown in the dungeon and the run ends.

Kill the king and the game flips. You are now the ruler, and the same mechanic turns against you: subjects approach from behind, and you tap to accuse and execute the ones you suspect. A red bar shows your remaining life; it drains on its own, and when it empties you die of old age and the loop restarts.

How to Play Murder

As the assassin, watch the king's head and shoulders for the tell-tale turn — a tilt or a roll of the eyes signals he is about to look back. Release your charged stab only while his back is turned. A partial charge is faster but weaker; a full charge is lethal but takes longer to wind up, leaving you exposed for that extra beat.

Once crowned, the room fills with courtiers. Tap a figure to accuse them; accuse wrongly and you waste a life, accuse rightly and you remove a threat. The king's life bar keeps falling the whole time, so hesitation is its own failure. Finding the red potion during a run tops the bar back up and buys you a longer reign.

Endings and Replay

The game tracks several outcomes rather than one win state: caught on your first attempt, killed as a paranoid king, or slipping into a rare peaceful exit by sparing the right subject. Because each loop is seconds long, the draw is in learning the king's rhythm and chasing the endings you have not seen.

• Read the cue, not the clock. The king's turn is the only signal that matters; charging on instinct gets you caught.
• Spend your life wisely. As king, every accusation costs time, so only act on a real tell.
• Hunt the red potion. It is the difference between a short reign and a long one.
